Welcome to my home page, and thank you for choosing Kaiser Permanente for your medical needs My Name is Melissa Smith and I want to be your physical therapist. I have been working for Kaiser since 2004. In addition to my physical therapy credentials, I still hold an athletic training certification. I enjoy working with all types of people including: collegiate athletes, weekend warriors, or those who are looking to start to a walking program. I have seen many people who have sustained orthopedic injuries and now have back pain, knee pain and/or shoulder pain. I am eager to partner with you to help you through your rehabilitation process. I will give you tools and education that may provide you with relief and a path back to your desired activities. I firmly believe each patient should take an active role in his/her rehabilitation using a combination of a home program, needed education and self management techniques. In my spare time I enjoy competing in triathlons. A triathlon is an athletically challenging race and consists of a swim, bike, and run. When I am not training I also enjoy snowboarding, hiking, reading, cooking, and traveling. I look forward to meeting you and sharing book recommendations, a simple recipe, or a great travel story.

My Credentials

Physical Therapy School University of the Pacific Doctorate of Physical Therapy
Undergraduate University of California, Davis B.S. Exercise Science
Continuing Education Folsom Long Term Orthopedic Manual Therapy Program, 2005, 2007
Additional Credentials Certified Athletic Trainer

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
