About Me
I was born on the tiny Caribbean island of Puerto Rico where I attended pre-school and elementary school up to the second grade. It had always been my father’s dream for my two brothers and I to learn English so he decided to move our family from the safety net of this small island to California. At the age of seven, my family left Puerto Rico to settle in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. The culture shock was just one of many hurdles that I had overcome in my life. I rapidly acclimated to my new surroundings, picking up the English language while incorporating the word “totally “into every other sentence and dependent clause. I spent a lot of time at home taking care of my older brother who was born with the congenital condition spina bifida. It is because of him that I became interested in medicine and especially Orthopedics. Our family constantly made trips to the hospital to care for him, and when he finally underwent major surgery, I decided to pursue a career in medicine and surgery. As a child I knew I wanted to help people, and I especially wanted to “fix” my brother so he could walk. I know now that he will never walk but it was through these experiences that I realized I enjoyed taking care of others. After majoring in Molecular Biology at California State University-Northridge, I moved to the Bay Area to pursue training as a Physicians Assistant at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, CA. It has always been my lifelong dream to work in surgery.
When in school, I was exposed to numerous practice settings including the Kaiser Permanente system of Northern California. I believe that Kaiser allows for an integrated and efficient approach to providing comprehensive care for its members. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2004 and am proud to be a member of the Orthopedic Department in the Diablo Service Area. I work principally out of Walnut Creek and Antioch.
In my spare time I travel to Southern California to spend time with my family. I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, scuba diving, backpacking, jogging, white water rafting, watching movies and traveling.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
