About me

I grew up in a Southeast Asian country where medical care is a privilege. I initially chose to become a medical doctor because I adored the physicians I came across when I was young. Later, during my training years, I was struck with unexplainable satisfaction from helping the sick, and I knew I had chosen the right path.

Among the many disciplines of medicine, I find nephrology to require a particular mix of knowledge and thinking. Nephrology is an ever changing field that keeps me sharp and interested.

I was in private practice for two years in Florida before I came to California. Both my wife and I love to travel, and California weather is among the best for local trips. I also like listening to music, playing guitar, and doing yard work.

Thriving At Kaiser Permanente

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2003. It is an integrated system where medical professionals work closely together for one common goal: to provide the best service for the members. I find it very efficient and I strongly believe that Kaiser Permanente is the model for the global health care industry.

My Philosophy on Healing

As modern physicians, we try to use "evidence-based medicine" in our daily practice. We prefer those drugs that have shown their benefit in scientific studies. However, quite often we forget about the mental component of an ailment, as we have only limited amount of "evidence" about it. In this sophisticated and stressful world, I believe that if you can find peace inside yourself, it would help in the healing of many disease conditions.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
