My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an orthopaedic spine and scoliosis surgeon. That means I completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and subsequently completed a scoliosis and spine surgery fellowship. I decided to do this because the surgical treatment of spinal deformity and certain other spinal disorders is logical and can greatly improve someone's life.

My Practice Philosophy

Each patient is unique. Very few people need spine surgery but those that do can greatly benefit from it. I consider my selection of who can benefit from surgery to be the most critical moment of my clinic day.

My Credentials

Medical school Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, OH
Internship UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Fellowship Hospital For Special Surgery, New York, NY
Board certification Orthopedic Surgery, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I joined the orthopaedic spine surgical team in the summer of 2006. I had been in private practice before joining my current team. Kaiser has allowed me to devote a greater portion of energy towards spine surgical treatments.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

  • Scoliosis Research Society Candidate
  • American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
  • North American Spine Society Member
  • Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society

On a Personal Note

My large family has given me the foundation for my positive outlook and the energy I apply towards spine surgery. I am the youngest of five children and grew up in Ohio. I'm married to a wonderful wife and we have three sweet daughters. I have a dog, too.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
