My Qualifications

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since I was an Intern in 1986. I spent time at UCDMC, Kaiser Morse Ave, and at South Sacramento Kaiser. When I finished my training in 1989, I felt confident in the character of the doctors at Kaiser Permanente and in the quality of care that they provided, so I decided to join the medical group. For the first seven years, I was in the Adult Medicine department providing primary care to my patients. I spent some time in the hospital, but most of my time was in the clinic. I always enjoyed spending time at the hospital, so I joined the Hospital Based Service when it was formed in 1996.

I belong to the American College of Physicians, and I have additional training in the Fundamentals of critical care support.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor, MI
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA

Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Healthcare Practice

I am an Internist, a specialist in adult medicine, much like a Pediatrician is a specialist in children’s medicine. I am part of the Hospital Based Medicine Service; I take care of adults who are hospitalized. We take care of the usual things such as pneumonia, asthma and heart attacks, in addition, we help to manage patients with complex chronic medical problems who are in the hospital for surgery. I need to be able to establish a rapport with my patients and their family quickly, and to be able to communicate with them my understanding of both the acute problem and their chronic medical conditions. This is the most satisfying aspect of my job.

Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I am proud to be a Kaiser Permanente physician. Our integrated model of care is unique and truly allows us to work together as a team to provide the very best medical care for our patients. The computerized medical record puts medical information, pharmacy, xray and lab information in one place so that we can keep abreast of what is happening with each patient.

About Me

I grew up in what is now called Granite Bay. Back then it was just “out by the Lake.” It was fairly rural. There was little development from just past Sunrise Blvd. all the way out to Folsom Lake. I went to K-8 at Eureka School and graduated from Oakmont High. I graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Animal Physiology and then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and attended The University of Michigan. I completed a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Medical School there. I met my husband Tom while in Medical School. We graduated from Medical School on a Friday and got married on Saturday, then drove our U-haul truck cross country to start our Internships at UCDMC! He is a pediatrician. We have three children: Andy, Alex and Jennie, and a golden retriever named Scout. In my spare time, I cook and collect cookbooks, sew, walk my dog and cross country ski.
