My Biography

One of the best aspects of working at Kaiser Permanente is having the freedom to practice acute care medicine knowing that all the physicians who will be involved in the patient’s care are part of the same system. I believe that establishing a rapport and understanding with the hospitalists and surgeons with whom I work enables our health care system to run smoothly, from the emergency room to admission to discharge. I also enjoy practicing medicine in the same community in which I live. My patients are my neighbors, my bus driver, my child’s teacher. I’m proud of the quality of care I am able to deliver, and I also take pride in the knowledge I am passing on to my student residents.

My special interests lie in teaching the practice of emergency medicine. I precept and/or teach students in the City College Paramedic Program, medical students at UCSF, and our own Kaiser residents. In addition, I teach ACLS/PALS to physicians and nurses across the entire Kaiser system. I regularly attend conferences given by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

I have two small children who keep me awake at all hours of the night, so one of my most avid hobbies is sleeping! When I can, I enjoy bicycling, hiking, and mountaineering. I am a member emeritus of the San Francisco Medical Center’s Dragon Boat team! Our festival and races occur in the fall of each year. How do I thrive? I try to eat my broccoli, and endeavor to get outside for at least 30 minutes per day to walk the dog, regardless of the weather or the steepness of any hills I encounter. Setting time aside in the evenings for meditation, or for reading a few book chapters, can be a great sanity saver. Welcome to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco! I am committed to ensuring that your visit with us is a positive one.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
