My Profession

I am an endocrinologist, which is a branch of internal medicine that deals with hormonal and metabolic disorders. I chose this field because I have always been interested in how our physiology works and how remarkably resilient it often is. Yet even the slightest changes can have amazingly profound effects.

My Credentials

Medical school Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, NE
Internship UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Fellowship UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

My practice philosophy is guided by asking, “What is in the best interests of my patients and their families?” And I try to treat everyone the same way I would my best friend or a member of my own family. Sometimes this involves treating serious medical problems, but many times preventing these problems is much more satisfying to both my patients and to me. Thriving and staying healthy is a richly rewarding practice for which I can provide many helpful tools. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure.

This same philosophy guides my approach to our members’ experiences during hospitalization. Being a patient in a hospital can be a very apprehensive and vulnerable experience. Making the stay as pleasant and caring as possible is one of my highest goals.

My Tenure With Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1989.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I particularly enjoy working for Kaiser Permanente because I have complete freedom to practice sound, evidence-based medicine to restore or maintain health of my patients. After a brief tenure in private practice several years ago, I am very happy to say that here at Kaiser Permanente there is no financial motivation to make one decision or another. Rather, my patients and I are partners on a journey to achieve and maintain the best health possible.”

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I serve as Assistant Physician in Chief of Hospital Operations for the Sacramento and Roseville area.

My Personal History

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of California, Riverside, and received a PhD in Physiology from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy restoring old cars and try to make even the smallest gains learning to play piano.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
