WELCOME TO MY HOME PAGE

I am happy to provide you with some information about myself, my profession, and helpful links/information regarding your health.

Introduction

I am an anesthesiologist at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento. In addition to making sure patients are stable, safe, and comfortable during the peri-operative period, I am a consultant to my surgery, emergency medicine, OB/GYN and medicine colleagues.

I decided to become an anesthesiologist because I enjoy the immediate impact that I have in the care of my patients. Through careful patient monitoring and rapid interventions, we make sure that patients are stable and comfortable during and on waking up from anesthesia. Surgery and anesthesia are extremely stressfull times in one's life. One of the most rewarding aspects of our profession is to be able to comfort and support our patients during this crucial time.

My Credentials

Medical school Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA
Internship Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Santa Clara, CA
Residency Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX
Board certification Anesthesiology, American Board of Anesthesiology

My Practice Philosophy

Two important elements in the practice of medicine are compassion and empathy. Though no provider can truely know what patients are experiencing, it is the ability to empathize with our patients that is the key in allowing us to medically treat and care for our patients in a compassionate way. Consequently, I believe that even in the mist of long hours, this is the ultimate reason of why most of us chose to pursue a careers in medicine.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

My experience with Kaiser Permanente began with my internship in internal medicine at Kaiser, Santa Clara. After my residency in anesthesiology, I decided to be part of Kaiser Permanente because this organization has the resources and philosophy that would allow me to practice evidence-based medicine and patient oriented care. During my time here, I have gained an appreciation of the collegial environment and caliber of my colleagues; both of which nurtures quality, academia, and growth in our practice of medicine.

Message to Patients

As I have eluded to above, undergoing surgery and anesthesia is a significant event in all patients' lives. Inaddition to psychologic factors, I often compare the physiologic aspect of surgery and anesthesia to a rigorous "work out." Therefore, as patients we should do everything prior to surgery to optimize and prepare ourselves physically prior to this "work out." This may mean maximizing our health through smoking cessation, controlling our hypertension, asthma, diabetes, improving your functional status, and/or undergoing a weight loss program. Visit your primary care physician, visit our anesthesia pre-operative clinic, and explore the information on the Kaiser and anesthesiology websites. One of the most exciting benefit as Kaiser Permanente patients is the ability to e-mail your Kaiser physicians. We are all here to answer your questions and care for you. If you have surgery, I hope to see you soon and hope that you find my website informative. Thank you so much for visiting my home page.
