Welcome to my home page

I began working as a case manager at Kaiser Permanente in September, 2000. I work Mondays from 8:30- 5:00 and on alternate weeks from 11:00-7:30. On Tuesday, and Wednesdays I work from 8:30-5:00. Those calling me at other times can leave a voice message at 299-4730 and I will get back to them during my work hours.

I have over thirty years experience in clinical social work in mental health, substance abuse, family advocacy, and working with medically ill populations. I choose social work as my field of practice because I felt I could make a difference in helping others to change their lives for the better. It has been a challenging and rewarding career in which I have learned a lot!

I have enjoyed working at Kaiser Permanente because it is one of the few health systems that recognize the importance of mental health services being available for the general patient population. In my job, I work with the chronic and persistently mentally ill population. I work within a team setting with the psychiatrist, the therapist, and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) staff, the patient, and the family. Together we try to improve life for the patient and his or her family. We do this by making referrals to community agencies such as the Friendship Center, Miller Center, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Our goals are to help the patient obtain a healthy and satisfying life despite his or her chronic mental illness. We try to educate families about their loved one’s mental illness, and often refer families to the twelve week educational training called Family to Family that is taught by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). In the last few years I have also co-led a group called the Multi Family Group in which patients with severe and persistent mental illness and their families meet every two weeks to problem solve issues which research has demonstrated lead to better outcomes for these patients: reduced hospitalizations, and improved rehabilitation.

I am a licensed clinical social worker in the State of California and hold the advanced credential of a Board Certified Diplomate. I also have special expertise in working with substance abuse.

In my personal life I enjoy water aerobics, gardening, hiking and cooking. I love exploring the hills around Northern California taking time to smell the flowers! I believe exercise is a great stress reliever and good for keeping me feeling optimistic and healthy! An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
