My Biography

Kaiser Permanente San Francisco offers me a fantastic opportunity for career advancement in the field of diabetes education and endocrinology case management. I enjoy working with pediatric patients and their families. The pediatric outpatient clinic is designed to assist patients and their families with their unique health care needs. Our goal is to offer a nurturing environment. Kaiser’s health care model holds tremendous respect for the individuality of the patient and family. It strives to prescribe a health care treatment plan that meets the patient’s personal goals. Our model also encourages patients to focus on health prevention and effective coping strategies.

I enjoy helping patients learn about their disease, helping them locate the services and referrals they need within our integrated system. I support patients in their process of learning to live with their disease. It gives me great professional and personal satisfaction to empower pediatric patients and their families to manage their diabetes or endocrine disease. I am particularly interested in the following areas of diabetic research: the autoimmune trigger that causes Type I diabetes, effective coping strategies for diabetic youth, and the advantages and challenges of insulin pump therapy for youth.

My passion is raising dogs for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., based in San Rafael. The dog-in-training lives with me for approximately 14 months. My responsibilities are to teach the dog basic obedience commands, to trust human beings, and to socialize the dog in all environments that it will encounter as a working guide dog. I also enjoy my own pet dog, Lazaro, a gorgeous long-haired German Shepherd. He is active in agility, canine freestyle dance, and pet therapy. I also have two cats. I enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, swimming, and reading for pleasure. Exercise, healthy eating, and keeping physically and emotionally fit are very important to me. I walk the dog every day and bicycle or go to the gym a few times weekly. I look forward to meeting and working with you!

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
