My Practice Philosophy

My goal is to provide you with the highest quality of care in my specialty area of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

About Me

Originally born and raised in Seattle, Washington, my first taste of Bay Area life was during undergrad at Stanford University, where I graduated with Honors in Human Biology. There I fell in love with the medical field. Whether working in free clinics or in the Emergency room, I watched doctors interact and communicate effectively with patients and realized that to be a good physician, one must be compassionate as well as knowledgeable, and must listen carefully in order to cure. I was also fortunate to travel during my junior year, where I spent a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain. I loved learning Spanish and, of course, trying the exotic foods. I continue to travel as much as I can with an effort to get off the beaten track to experience different cultures. After college, I spent a year teaching undergraduate biology at Stanford and continuing my thesis research on neuroimaging in Turner syndrome, a genetic condition in which females have only one X chromosome (most females have XX and males have XY). It has fueled my appreciation for evidenced-based treatment, and ignited my interest in OB/Gyn and the myriad of effects of female hormones.

I went on to receive my medical degree from University of Washington in Seattle. I was extremely excited to come to Kaiser Permanente at Santa Clara for my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. I have learned from the excellent physicians here how to practice the art of medicine, where the focus is not just on diagnosing diseases, but on education and healing. I am very pleased with the many resources that Kaiser Permanente health care has available to you so you can be an active participant in both maintaining and improving your health.

My other credentials include being a Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. I also published my research in Turner syndrome, Selective Alterations in White Matter Associated with Visuospatial and Sensory-Motor Dysfunction in Turner Syndrome in Journal of Neuroscience. I have received awards including Excellence in Teaching from Stanford (2003) and a Fellowship from the National Fragile X Foundation (2001).

My Interests

In my personal life, I am thrilled to be getting married this year to my wonderful fiancé Chris. I work hard and I also play hard, including soccer, swimming, interleague softball, skiing, surfing, wake surfing, and scuba diving. Things I enjoy include Oakland A's baseball, cooking (inventing more than measuring), impressionist paintings, Chihuly glass, and again, traveling everywhere. I am also the middle sister of three, and thankful for a family that has taught me to be competitive, resilient, and to cherish the value of unconditional love.

Hopefully this information was helpful to learn a little about me. To encourage healthy living and help you find answers, I also direct you to "Healthy Living Resources", "Health Encyclopedia", and "Healthwise Handbook" on Kaiser's main website.

I want to be certain all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your visit, you may leave me a message at the above telephone number. Either, I, or my medical assistant, will return your call.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
