WELCOME TO MY HOME PAGE
Hi, I’m Mara and I began working as a Genetic Counselor in 1992 at UC Davis Medical Center and then joined Kaiser in 1994. I find that helping people work through complicated and difficult issues in a compassionate way is one of the most rewarding aspects of genetic counseling. Although I’m always interested in the latest genetic research I really feel most deeply fulfilled when I’m working with people and helping however I can.
I have a few areas of expertise that have found me over the years. I work with people who have inborn errors of metabolism through our Regional Metabolic Clinic based in Oakland and help coordinate care for those members who require treatment via infusion for Fabry disease. I also help coordinate our multi-disciplinary, Genetic Movement Disorder clinic where we follow patients with Huntington Disease and other movement disorders. We work closely with the team from UC Davis Medical Center Huntington Disease Center of Excellence to help provide our patients with the best care we can. In these settings I am fortunate to be able to establish ongoing relationships with patients with chronic illness. I learn a lot from these people and their resiliency inspires me on a regular basis.
On a personal note, I’m married and we have 2 sons. I also can’t forget our Golden Retriever and Beagle since they definitely won’t let us forget that they are part of the family too. When I’m not at work I’m often helping at our sons’ school, working out, enjoying nature and the outdoors, reading, watching sports (kids or professionals-I love it all although I could use a tutorial on the rules of Hockey!), traveling, or hanging out with family or friends. Now that you know a little about me, I look forward to learning about you too if our paths should cross here at Kaiser.
I have 2 different offices and you can find me in Roseville (MOB 2) on Mondays and Wednesdays and Sacramento (Point West)on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm off most Fridays.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
