Welcome to My Home Page!
About Me
I spent most of my early life in Washington, D.C. with the exception of a 5-year sojourn to Missouri as a teenager. I came to San Diego in 1990, courtesy of the United States Navy and, like so many others, have stayed in California since. My career in the Navy spanned 13 1/2 years, including 3 years as a Naval Flight Surgeon in New Orleans, Directorship of the Anesthesia Pain Clinic at the Naval Hospital in San Diego from 1994-1996 and finally 2 years as Chairman of the Anesthesia Department in Yokosuka, Japan. After some exposure to Southern California Kaiser Permanente providing per diem anesthesia services I decided to join Kaiser Permanente in the Diablo Service Area in 1999. Since then, I have felt fortunate to be associated with such an extraordinary team of health care professionals.
My practice at this point consists of both operative anesthesia and interventional pain management, spending about half time in each specialty. The hours listed in table form on this web page are for the Anesthesia Department in general. The Anesthesia Pain Clinic is located in the Hacienda Building at the Martinez Medical Offices. Our clinic hours there are generally 7:30am-3:00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, although occasionally we will schedule the clinic later hours or on additional days during the week as well.
What Do I Enjoy About Practicing at Kaiser Permanente?
There is a strong sense of teamwork and open communication across the multitude of people who deliver and coordinate the healthcare provided. Additionally at Kaiser Permanente there is easy access to information technologies which streamline practice and allow enhanced patient care. Professional societies with which I currently have affiliation include the American Society of Anesthesiologists, California Society of Anesthesiologists, and Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association.
Any of you site readers photography buffs? That is one of my hobbies along with nature, raising dogs, Asian travel, and languages.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
