About Me
When my mentors at UCLA and Yale led me down this path towards neurosurgery, they were actually calling me to duty. It was my call to provide compassion and the best of what medicine has to offer for people in their time of need. They could also see that I was intrigued by the central nervous system. It is the most beautiful and awesome creation I have ever seen. Time stops in the operating room when nothing else in the world is as important as using technical finesse and a thorough knowledge of the nervous system to serve the patient I am trying to help.
On a biographical note, I was born in Taiwan and my parents immigrated with my brother and I to Los Angeles in 1977. After graduating from UCLA with Magna Cum Laude in Psychobiology, I received my MD from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. I was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. My internship and residency training were at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
I am a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the San Mateo County Medical Association.
After the decade of rigorous education and training in New England, I was ready to come home to California. I joined the Neurosurgery Department at Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City in 2001. I chose Kaiser Permanente because the concentration of talent and resources allows me to provide the best of what medicine has to offer.
It is for the same reason that I and all my loved ones receive our medical care from Kaiser Permanente (my parents are ardent fans of Kaiser Permanente). It is a great privilege to work with such a congenial and excellent group of health care professionals. Furthermore, Kaiser Permanente encourages a well balanced and healthy professional life for its staff as it does for all its members.
When off work, I enjoy reading, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.
