Welcome to my home page...

I am a clinical social worker, licensed by the State of California, a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the California Clinical Social Workers Association. I began my social work practice in 1981 and joined Oakland Kaiser in 1990 after hearing about this unique innovative research project, Early Start, being developed by Oakland Kaiser to help pregnant women have healthy babies. Having seen the devastating impact of substance abuse on women, children and families, I could not pass up the opportunity to participate in a program that reached out to help women prior to the birth of their babies. Before coming to Kaiser, I worked for nine years as program director for one of the first women's recovery programs in the Bay Area and provided psychotherapy services to women, children and families. Since its inception at Oakland Kaiser, the Early Start Program has become an integral part of every northern Kaiser obstetrics and gynecology department and is a national model for perinatal substance abuse prevention and early intervention.

You can learn more about this well researched, evidence-based program by clicking on the Early Start Program links.

Personally, I am a lover of Creole food, zydeco, blues and jazz music, a stepmother to three wonderful adult children, a grandmother to eight adult children, a great-grandmother to seven children, and a mentor to four young children living in my neighborhood. I enjoy baseball, basketball, tennis, needlework, poetry writing, yoga and spending time with my family and friends.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
