My Biography

When I finished my Psychiatry residency, I was excited to begin working at Kaiser Permanente. An integrated system of care such as ours allows me to work and consult with a talented group of colleagues, devote myself to my patients instead of to the business side of medicine, utilize an array of technological resources, and care for the incredible diversity of people who make San Francisco their home. This must be one of the most interesting places in the world to practice psychiatry!

After completing my training at Yale University, I sought additional training in the treatment of adolescents and families. Over the years, my interest in adolescents and families deepened and I obtained certification in Adolescent Psychiatry. Presently, I am the Chief of the Child and Family Team, a highly creative and devoted group of clinicians who care for the emotional needs of children, teens, and parents. I love working in a group and being part of a team; the support we provide each other allows us to better support the families we treat.

I have special interests in parenting, ADHD, and the diagnosis and treatment of serious psychiatric illnesses in teens. I treat adolescents within the context of the whole family. I continue to work with my many adult patients, am interested in women’s health issues, and keep up with developments in psychopharmacology.

In my spare time, I relax with my family, travel, study Spanish, practice yoga, and read fiction and poetry.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
