Dr. McOmber was born in Utah and grew up in Idaho & California. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology 1972 from Brigham Young University, Utah and an AA degree in Natural Sciences 1982 from Ohlone College in Fremont.

Dr. McOmber went on to the University of California at San Francisco, where he received his medical degree in 1989. He completed his pediatric residency in 1992 from Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. McOmber served actively with the UC Navy Hospital Corp from 1976-1980 and in the reserves from 1980-1984. He also did missionary work with the LDS (Mormon) Church from 1967-1969 and was a Peace Corp Math & Science teacher in Africa from 1972-1974.

Dr. McOmber is married and has two daughters.
