My Biography

I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist, with a special interest and training in developmental problems. I work in the Department of Psychiatry as a member of team which provides psychiatric assessments and ongoing treatment for children and adolescents. In addition, I coordinate a multidisciplinary clinic where we assess children for autism. In 2008, this clinic will expand to function as a regional Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic.

I am very happy to be a Kaiser Permanente physician. I appreciate the autonomy I have to make decisions for my patients without having to justify the cost of the work to someone else. I can work effectively because I am part of a team of clinicians, each of whom brings a special area of expertise to patient care. I especially appreciate that I can contact another physician who has seen my patient, usually within a few minutes, and so can coordinate care with other fields such as pediatrics and neurology.

Outside of work, my main source of inspiration and relaxation is my family. I also remain active in reading and writing about philosophy. I always squeeze in time for exercise, and use my treadmill and stationary bike most days--usually while watching a movie, since otherwise the activity is a bit too boring for me! I recently started a vegetable garden, since it seemed to me a good way to do my part for the environment while getting organic produce that my family loves.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
