Welcome to my home page

Welcome to the Department of Hospital Medicine in Walnut Creek. Our focus is caring for inpatients. It is always our goal as physicians to provide quality care and service to our patients. For me personally, I firmly believe that attaining good health is based on teamwork between patients and physicians. I value open communication and partnering with patients and their families. I am thrilled to be part of such an interesting and rewarding field of medicine. I look forward to helping you achieve and maintain good health!

About me

I grew up in Napa and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley (Go Bears!). I studied anthropology and spent several years prior to my medical career as an archaeologist in the United States and Italy. I then attained a master's degree, working on the genetics of diabetes in the Pima Indians, through Arizona State University and the National Institutes of Health. In the lab, among experiments and the hum of polymerase chain reaction machines, I discovered that my true passion was not the experiments themselves. Instead, I really relished results that benefited and improved the lives of the patients who were coming to our on-site hospital.

In medical school, I earned special recognition for medical and other community service projects for underserved people in the Tucson area. My residency provided diverse training opportunities. I chose to work at Kaiser Permanente because the patients in our care represent rich social, cultural, and medical diversity not necessarily seen in other parts of the United States. I was working in the Department of Adult Medicine at Kaiser Permanente in Napa, and in 2006 transferred to our Walnut Creek Medical Center to focus on inpatient care.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
