How to Use My Home Page...
My Biography
At San Francisco Medical Center, I really enjoy working with all of my patients and their families that I see on a daily basis. I like teaching parents and kids about their conditions because I feel that the more a person understands about their medical condition, the more they can actively participate in their care, and the more effective that care will be. I also enjoy teaching UCSF medical students and pediatrics residents. Kaiser Permanente has been in the forefront of many innovations related to health care delivery. One example is our relatively new electronic medical records system called Health Connect. This tool enables providers to integrate care with one another in a collaborative manner. Patients visiting any Kaiser Permanente facility may rest assured that their providers will be able to call up their complete medical history in an instant. The old system of paper charts and copies is a thing of the past.
After finishing my residency, I spent several years as a clinician and basic science researcher at UCSF. My area of research was in childhood neurodegenerative diseases and brain steroids. Although I see all types of neurological conditions, my main professional interest is neurogenetic and neurodegenerative disorders. I participate in many Regional Genetics Clinics, including a Neurogenetics Clinic.
In my free time, I enjoy gardening and hiking Bay Area trails. I am an avid runner and marathoner, as well as an aspiring triathelete! Despite a rigorous professional and personal training schedule, I find time to coach adults in basic running skills and marathoning. I am particularly interested in children’s running and physical fitness. I THRIVE by swimming, walking, hiking, meditating, and following a healthy eating lifestyle.

Why a Pediatrician
Why a pediatrician? Why do kids need a specialist? Because kids are different. And so are the doctors that choose to take care of kids.
Pediatrics is the medical specialty that is fully focused on kids: from birth through the exciting and tumultuous years of adolescence.
Pediatricians are trained for 4 years in medical school to become a doctor and then have three full years of extra training in how to take care of kids and teens. Some pediatricians have additional training in a subspecialty area like cardiology, pulmonology, or hematology. Our department has general pediatricians and specialist pediatricians to make sure that your children stay healthy and, if they get sick, that they get the best care possible.
Pediatricians believe that your children start healthy. We are trained to focus on prevention of problems and work with families for the betterment of children. We love children and, in truth, most of us are big kids ourselves.
In the pediatric department, we look forward to caring for your family as it grows.
