Welcome to My Home Page
As a Behavioral Medicine Specialist in the Adult Medicine Department at Kaiser Walnut Creek, I work closely with your primary care physicians to provide services to patients with emotional/psychological issues such as problems living with a medical illness, depression, anxiety, life stress, grief and domestic violence. I collaborate with your medical provider to monitor the effects of any medicine you may be taking related to these problems, and I am also a liaison between the Medicine Departments and the Departments of Psychiatry and Health Education. I try to use the best information available in the cutting-edge area of mind-body medicine to help patients through these problems. In addition to seeing individual patients, I facilitate a monthly psychoeducational group for patients with fibromyalgia, and I am part of a team teaching a monthly group for patients with irritable bowel and related syndromes.
I appreciate providing brief support to patients, and helping them find the best combination of resources at Kaiser and beyond, including classes, online resources, lifestyle changes, psychotherapy, medicine, and community resources. Throughout my career I have believed in the special model that we practice here at Kaiser, in which psychologists work with patients directly within the medical clinic, in close collaboration with the primary care physicians.
I started my graduate education studying neurobiology, but I switched to Health Psychology because I enjoy working with patients, facilitating their coping with physical and emotional challenges, as well as helping doctors help patients with emotional problems. I have been practicing as a licensed psychologist since 1987. I have taught family physicians at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for many years, and I joined the Medicine Department at Kaiser Walnut Creek in 2008.
Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, hiking, music, travel, good food of all ethnicities, and spending time with family and friends.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
