About Me

As a licensed Clinical Social Worker I have been committed to working with families and teens struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependency for more than 25 years. After spending 17 years treating adolescents and families in intensive outpatient programs, I transferred from Kaiser Permanente’s Adolescent Chemical Dependency Program to their Early Start Program in November 2001 in order to spend more time with my school aged daughter.

Pregnancy can be a stressful time for women. I find it very fulfilling to support women during the course of pregnancy because this can be a wonderful time to make changes that lead to a healthy lifestyle and a healthy baby. I am also able to help women with histories of depression or anxiety enhance their coping skills and find appropriate resources. I remain very committed to working with pregnant women because I have personally witnessed the miraculous changes that women can make during this critical time in their lives. I thoroughly enjoy my job as an Early Start Specialist in Pleasanton and Martinez.

The other major focus in my life is raising my young daughter, which involves juggling parenting, homework, and after school activities with a part-time job. I also enjoy walking my dog before work in the morning and working out two days a week in a challenging attempt to remain somewhat fit!

My Education and Credentials

Undergraduate Education: BA Social Work, University of Wisconsin - Madison
Graduate Education: Master of Science in Social Work, University of Wisconsin - Madison 1984
Certification: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCS14416)* Board of Behavioral Sciences 1989
Professional Affiliations: National Association of Social Workers

*What It Means to be Licensed:

To become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), a person must graduate with their Master’s Degree from an accredited university. He or she must take additional training in areas such as: alcoholism and other chemical substance dependency, human sexuality, partner abuse detection and intervention and child abuse. After completing graduate school, a licensee must also complete 3000 - 3200 hours of supervised experience and pass written exams before becoming licensed. The licensee must take continuing education courses every two years.
