My Profession and Why I Chose It

Women's Health enables me to work with woman across their life span. Three areas of special interest are pregnancy, contraception and menopause.

I love working with prenatal patients, using education and teaching to lead the way through the joyful and sometimes stressful period of pregnancy.

Helping each individual find the right contraception to meet their particular needs, is a challenge I enjoy.

It is now more complicated to solve the multidimensional issues of menopause in this post Women's Health Initiative era. I feel by individualizing care, together we can find the correct solution for each woman's menopause needs.

My Credentials

Bachelor’s Degree BA Hunter College, Marymount College of Virginia; Nursing
Specialty Women’s Health
Expanded Education Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Training, UCLA

My Professional Affiliations and Awards

I earned the title of Nurse Practitioner III in 2005. I am a Menopause Champion for the capital area.

I belong to the California Association for Nurse Practitioners and the Sacramento Area Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Association.

My Practice Philosophy

I selected the Women's Health field since it allows me the opportunity to integrate teaching and preventative health as the backbone philosophy of my practice.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a Nurse Practitioner with Kaiser Permanente since 1982, and those years have given me extensive experience. I have had the opportunity to work at Kaiser in Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, and now Roseville since 1990. I work with an incredible health professional team comprised of nurse practitioners and doctors.

On a Personal Note…

I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, but California has been my home since 1978. At twenty-one I graduated from Hunter College, part of the City University of New York, majoring in Sociology and Elementary Education. I thought my education and future plans as a teacher were well established, little did I know it was only the beginning of my educational and career journey.

Something happened while teaching in New York City in a unique homebound program for children out of school for physical and emotional reasons. It was through this job that I first developed an interest in the health field and the intricacies of the mind and body relationship.

The journey brought me all over the country, first to Virginia for my nursing education, and then to California where I started as a new graduate RN at Kaiser Oakland in 1978.I later went to Los Angeles for my Nurse Practitioner Training through UCLA completed in 1982.

My family moved from Berkeley to Auburn in1990. While the move involved some adjustment, I love the foothills. When I'm not working, I enjoy staying very active hiking and practicing yoga.
