About Me

Any individual harbors a secret dream in his or her heart. Consciously or unconsciously, this dream may have evolved over the years, shaped by childhood events and experiences.

I first learned about the world of Medicine through the work of my father as a military physician. In a war-ravaged country, his daily duty was to salvage and repair mangled bodies of soldiers and civilians rescued from the battlefront. My strong motivation to care for the afflicted, to alleviate their suffering and pain, must have stemmed from the early model of ethics and compassion that my father has set.

My personal experience with polio since a young age inspires me further in the desire to help others. My own illness often translates into better understanding of the plight of the disabled, and a sense of connection with my patients in their emotional or physical hardship. To various degrees, I can relate to theirs fears and hopes, their feelings of isolation in sickness and distress, or their courage in the fight against life adversities.

Being a physician represents to me the highest honor and a privilege to practice in one of the noblest professions. One is not only entrusted with making decisions on important issues such as life and death, but also is offered a rare opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

I enjoy social and community activities. I am the President of the non-profit organization Compassion. My other hobbies include reading, playing piano and world travel.

My Background

I graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley and then a M.S. from Stanford. I spent the next 9 years working in the technical field before making the transition to Medicine.

I graduated from UC San Francisco in 1997, and after 3 intense training years at the Family Practice program in Santa Rosa. I then joined Kaiser TPMG in late Fall 2000. Following the first year working as a primary care physician in Kaiser Permanente - San Jose, I decided to move to Minor Injury Clinic to broaden my scope of practice and to acquire more in-depth skills in managing critically ill patients.

My Clinical Interests

Among the multitude of illnesses seen in Urgent Care, I have a particular interest in dealing with trauma cases. The opportunity of providing stabilization, rapid remedy to the patients' problems - whether it is repair of a laceration, removal of a foreign object in the eye, or as simply as reduction of a nursemaid's elbow, and then seeing the patients' joy of relief, is truly gratifying.

My Philosophy of Care

My philosophy of care is simple. A statement from the 'Oath of Hippocrates' has and will continue to serve as an inspiration for me – "I will use my power to help the sick to the best of my ability and judgement; I will abstain from harming or wrongdoing any man by it". Like any other physician, from the days of entering medical school until the end of his/her professional career, I hope to be remembered as among those who have striven to uphold the highest goals of medicine and practice it with conscience
