About Me

I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I came to the United States at age 17 with my parents and sisters. My original goal was to become a teacher. I enjoy working with people. I like to apply knowledge to help others. I am also curious to learn about any new discoveries.

My final year in high school was a turning point in my life. That year, my grandfather’s health deteriorated rapidly. Serving as his interpreter during numerous medical visits, I came into close contact with the medical profession. I realized to become a physician, one needs to communicate effectively with people, to exercise good clinical judgment based on evidence, and to keep current with advances in the field. I was attracted to medicine.

After I graduated from medical school, I went on to complete an internal medicine residency at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Oakland where I was exposed to such a wonderful system for practicing medicine. The emphasis on integrated patient care and the stress on preventive medicine are examples of our success at Kaiser Permanente, just to mention a few. Upon completion of my fellowship in infectious diseases, I immediately joined the Kaiser Permanente as a career physician.

In addition to working at the Kaiser Permanente, I am a member of the California Medical Association and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. During my leisure time, I enjoy playing table tennis and chess. I am also interested in learning languages. I am currently taking Spanish lessons and am looking for any opportunity to communicate with Spanish speaking patients.

I have been practicing at the Kaiser Permanente since 1992. My passion for medicine and the satisfaction working with my patients and colleagues has not lessened one bit. I am looking forward to serving you and your family in both health and illness.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
