ABOUT ME

I immigrated to the United States in 1993 after graduating from Moscow State Medical University, one of the top medical schools in the former Soviet Union. I am fluent in both English and Russian languages.

Between the years 1993 and 1999, I worked in a medical research laboratory and read large volumes of medical and research books pertaining to the career of nephrologists which I always wanted to pursue. My interest in nephrology was first developed in medical school when I was involved in a number of research projects dealing with connective tissue and other general disorders with kidneys.

I continued my career at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, NY in 1999 as an Internal Medicine Resident. In my three years of residency at Brookdale University Hospital, with the development of preventative medicine, I still encountered an overwhelming number of sick patients. While we are extremely successful in improving patient's level of awareness and access to health care, there are still factors that we were unable to change, such as heredity, and genetic condition. I enjoy working with this high-risk population addressing all aspects of their care: physical, psychological, educational, and socioeconomic. I was pleased to learn that over the years people have learnt to take better care of their health and become active participants in their health care.

After successful completion of my third year residency as a chief resident, I became a Nephrology Fellow. Two years later, I became a Kaiser Permanente nephrologist.

PRACTICE APPROACH AND PHILOSOPHY

I always dreamed of working for the organization which considered prevention of illness their primary goal, therefore, Kaiser Permanente was my first choice. Several of my family members, including my wife, have been Kaiser Permanente members and were very pleased with the Kaiser Permanente approach to patient care. I am proud to be a Kaiser Permanente physician and I strive to exercise the same approach to provide high level of patient care. I will continue to address all aspects of patient care, including physical, psychological, educational, and socioeconomic.

It is vital to acknowledge that becoming a kidney specialist has not narrowed my expertise to the kidney problems, but, in the contrary, it broadened my expertise. I am a whole person physician, and not one system specialist. My goal is to help all of my patients to maintain and improve their individual level of wellness and my commitment is to do everything possible to assist them in this endeavor.

Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, and I look forward to seeing you at your next appointment.

Select a personal physician - An important part of your health care experience at Kaiser Permanente includes building a relationship with your personal physician. If you haven't already selected one or want to change, click here to choose a personal physician for yourself or for a family member.
