Welcome to My Home Page

As your physician, I value my relationship with you. We developed My Doctor Online to make it easier for you and your family to get answers to your questions and take care of many of your health care needs. There are on-line features that will allow you to e-mail me, check your laboratory results, and refill prescriptions. Providing you with only the highest quality materials demonstrates our commitment to giving you the best quality care.

My Background

I grew up in Taiwan, but obtained my professional education all over the United States. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a major in integrative biology, I obtained my medical doctor degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. Seeking warmer weather, I moved to Houston, Texas and worked in the medicine department at the Baylor College of Medicine for a year as an intern. Then I moved back to California and finished my neurology residency training at the University of California, Los Angeles. After residency, I decided to pursue further training in the field of clinical neurophysiology with special emphasis on epilepsy/seizures and intraoperative monitoring at UCLA. Later I spent another year in epilepsy research at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Hospital.

While my main focus has been to cultivate a career in academics for the past few years, I came to realize during my research time that what I miss most about my days was taking care of patients. Eventually, I decided to turn down multiple other job offers that spanned across geography and types of practice, and joined Kaiser Permanente in 2011. Like many of my colleagues, I feel that the environment here allows me to concentrate my energy on patient care. I appreciate being part of a team of health professionals that are committed to quality and excellence in the day-to-day delivery of health care that is efficient and consistent.

While being fairly new to the neurology family at Kaiser, I have been impressed by the supportive staff and the neurologists around me. I hope to embrace the genuine caring spirit in my interactions with patients, to look after my patients to the best of my abilities, and to continue educating myself in order to fulfill my duties as a clinician.

Roles & Responsibilities

My focus in training has been in the field of clinical neurophysiology with an emphasis in epilepsies/seizures as well as intraoperative monitoring. I am eager to fulfill my role as the neurologist watching over nerve/brain functions during operations to prevent unexpected injuries. I also hope in the near future to help North Valley Kaiser to build an epilepsy monitoring unit for differentiation of different epileptic vs non-epileptic seizures, and to further the work-up of intractable epilepsies for possible epilepsy surgery.

On a Personal Note. . .

My lovely wife and our 10-month-old boy moved here with me from Los Angeles. We hope after some adjustments, this area will treat us well and make us its permanent residents. We cherish the time spent with family and friends. When time permits, I would like to pick up my golf clubs and basketball again. I support my undergraduate sports team and hope to make it to a couple of games down by the Strawberry Canyon.
