Welcome to my homepage

I grew up receiving Kaiser care here in the bay area and believe that Kaiser Permanente offers wonderful care. I appreciate having xrays, lab, pharmacy and specialists all on one site here in San Jose. As a patient I feel that Kaiser Permanente values my time and makes sure that I am satisfied with my care. I admire Kaiser Permanente's focus on health promotion and am proud to be a part of the Emergency Services Department since 2008. I hope your trip to the Minor Injury Clinic or ER went as smoothly as possible. As a parent of three boys who have each visited the Minor Injury Clinic, I am mindful of treating patients the way I would want my family to be cared for. I empathize with what a two hour wait can do to a two year old. Although I do not often get to see the same patients again, I enjoy the variety of patients I see in the urgent care setting.

My Background

I hold dual masters degrees in Public Health and Physician Assistant Studies from Touro University in Vallejo, CA. Before PA training I attended Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, picking up a master's degree in theology and a husband. My husband is an avid outdoorsman and together we have climbed six states' highest peaks. My undergraduate degree is in English and Modern Languages from Westmont College in Santa Barbara. I learned Spanish during two college summers in Central America and value patients' ability to speak to me in their native tongue. I have always been intrigued by foreign cultures and have traveled to over 35 foreign countries. I was an English as a Second Language teacher at Pasadena City College for several years before becoming a PA. I also taught on a hospital ship in East Africa, ESL in China and mathematics for an American school in Russia. I like to boast that I am on billboards in northern China (advertising an ESL school that I worked for). I hope that my exposure to different cultures and my background in teaching helps me to be a better provider for you.

My Interests

When I am not working you can usually find me with my kids at the zoo, watching bulldozers move dirt or at a neighborhood playgroup. Besides chasing after my boys I also enjoy watching tv, spending time with my extended family and shopping for bargains.

My Philosophy of Care

My favorite quote, as quoted by Anne Lamott in Traveling Mercies, basically sums up my philosophy of care. Lamott states that, "The world sometimes feels like the waiting room of the emergency ward and that we who are more of less OK for now, need to take the tenderest care of the more wounded people in the waiting room until the healer comes. You sit with people, she said, you bring them juice and graham crackers". At this stage in my life I am fortunate to be in a position to care for others.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
