My Biography

I first heard about genetic counseling during my sophomore year of college, and was immediately drawn to the field due to the unique combination of skills required. I love being in a job that allows me to keep current with technical advances in genetics, while at the same time never losing touch with the needs of patients who ultimately receive our services. Adapting care for each patient, providing the most up-to-date information, and making sure I am available for follow-up continue to be the most rewarding aspects of my career.

After completing my graduate work, I joined Genzyme Genetics. With Genzyme, I had the opportunity to serve patients at a dozen different prenatal clinics throughout southern and northern California. This broad experience has taught me to appreciate the diversity of this region, and allowed me to witness the vast differences in delivery of healthcare from private practices.

At San Francisco Medical Center, I am thrilled to be part of an organization that provides comprehensive preventative care to patients. The integrated services, electronic health record and coordination of care between departments helps facilitate an excellent level of service. It is wonderful to be part of a health care team with common goals and a spirit of giving back to the community. I also continue to enjoy personal growth as I expand my services beyond prenatal genetic counseling to include cancer genetic risk assessment, pediatric and adult genetic evaluations.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
