Dr. Hofmeister was born is San Francisco and raised in Sonoma and Marin. She is a 5th generation Californian and appreciates living in the most beautiful place in the world. She attended undergraduate school at University of Santa Clara and received a B.S. in Mathematics and another in Chemistry. She went to the University of California, San Francisco for medical school, graduating in 1978 and did her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Prior to joining the Permanente Medical Group in 1990, she co-directed the laboratory at Watsonville Community Hospital. She is certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

When she is not here she volunteers at high school and college career workshops. She also enjoys sewing, rug braiding, hiking, camping, mycology and spending time with her daughters.
