About Me

Although I was raised and educated in Texas, I now consider myself to be a complete California transplant. I love the variety of cultures in our communities and our glorious landscape and climate. My husband is a law professor with an interest in the health industry and the biosciences. He has a particular interest in the ethical and legal issues surrounding some of the new technologies in stem cell research and neuroscience.

My husband and I have two lovely children and two troublesome cats. Between watching soccer games, I try to spend time gardening and cooking.

My Background

I obtained my medical degree from University of Texas School of Medicine. I then completed an internship, residency and fellowship with Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center. I am board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine in the specialties of pulmonary disease and internal medicine.

My Practice

I love the practice of pulmonary medicine because of the diverse nature of the problems I see. In addition to conditions affecting the lungs such as asthma, emphysema and interstial lung disease, our department supervises the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. It is extremely important to me that patients leave our department with a complete understanding of their diagnosis and treatment plan and all of the options available to them. I believe that our patients can be effective partners in maintaining optimal health only if we give them the knowledge and the tools they require.

Philosophy of Care

Many of the conditions I see are caused or aggravated by tobacco. If you smoke, quit! If you are having difficulty, we have an excellent support classes available. I believe strongly that regular exercise helps most patients with chronic lung conditions. In addition to the traditional brisk walk or bike ride, I encourage patients to participate in strength training and mind body exercises such as yoga and Tai Chi. And don’t forget to get your flu vaccination every year!

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
