Dear Patient,
Thank you for choosing Kaiser Permanente to provide your healthcare and for taking a moment to look at my home page. I would like to introduce myself to my patients and share some Internet health care resources that I believe to be useful and informative. I am new to Kaiser Permanente and am a Behavioral Medicine Specialist and Early Start Specialist. I am excited to be serving the Gilroy area and to have joined a leading healthcare provider.
About Behavioral Medicine:
Behavioral medicine is the integration of behavioral and medical science in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of medical conditions. I believe daily behavior can affect your health more than anything else. Therefore, behavioral changes can help you improve your health, prevent illness, and reduce the symptoms of medical conditions. I believe that attaining and maintaining mental health should be a joint process between a patient and physician and/or mental health provider, with you being the expert on your experience/symptoms. My appointments are 30 minutes or less; therefore, we will concentrate on practical and focused strategies for better managing your health.
Early Start:
I look forward to working with those members supported by the Early Start Program, which emphasizes prevention of tobacco, alcohol, and drug-related complications. It is exciting to be part of a team that can assist women during a time of excitement and transition with emotional support, education, and numerous other available resources. It is fulfilling and inspiring to observe, and be part of, the changes women can make that lend support to a positive birth outcome.
About Me:
I grew up on a farm just outside Portland, Oregon. I first became interested in the field of psychology while volunteering as a camp counselor with troubled youth while in high school. After high school I headed east to New York and attended a small liberal arts school, Union College. I received my degree in Psychology and Spanish. Also, during college I lived in Italy and studied the Italian language and art history while traveling throughout Europe. Next, I completed my M.S. and Ph.D. at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. While completing my education I trained at the Palo Alto VA, Carl T. Hayden VAMC, and UC Davis Medical Center. My personal interests include: spending time with my family and friends, skiing, walking my dogs, movies, and cooking.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
