My Biography

Welcome to my home page!

I was raised in San Jose. Originally planning a career in veterinary medicine, I attended the University of California, Davis (Go Ags!) and became interested in the eye while interning in the ophthalmology department of the University of California at Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

At Davis I conducted undergraduate and post-graduate research in avian neurological development and earned a BS in zoology. I then went on to the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and graduated with honors. Having developed an interest in the visually impaired, I pursued a residency in low vision/hospital optometry at the University of California, Berkeley and the Blind Rehabilitation Center of the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital.

I joined Kaiser Santa Clara in January of 1999 and provide both comprehensive optometric care and specialty care for Low Vision patients.

I am certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and have served as a low vision consultant for the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Palo Alto. I am also an examiner for the Optometry National Boards.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and many outdoor activities including downhill skiing, hiking, and rock climbing. I'm also a huge San Jose Sharks fan.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
