I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley. I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of California at Davis. My interest in medicine began in grade school after many fascinating conversations with my father’s friends (also physicians). While completing a master’s degree in public health, I became intrigued with the field of occupational medicine. It incorporated my interests in medicine, toxicology and disease prevention. After completing medical school at Bowman Gray/Wake Forest University, I did my internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1999, after completing a fellowship in Occupational Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. I am board certified in internal medicine and occupational medicine.
Currently, I serve as chief of our department. I am proud of our providers and staff, as I believe we provide excellent care for injured workers. We take a “sports medicine” approach and encourage appropriate activity and exercise as a means to recovery. Our clinic has access to outpatient services such as x-ray, lab, and pharmacy. Our clinic also has access to all hospital inpatient services. I can refer you to any of our excellent specialists in orthopedic surgery, general surgery, neurology, spine clinic, and dermatology, just to name a few. Our clinic also provides other services such as DMV and pre-employment physicals, limited drug testing, medical surveillance for asbestos and chemical exposures.
My personal interests include my family, cooking (all cuisines) and reading science fiction, mysteries, etc. My son will attend Junipero Serra high school this fall. By contrast, my daughter is only interested in eating, sleeping, watching “Noggin” and learning to crawl.
As an Occupational Medicine physician, I take appointments by referral. If you do not already have a referral, please call our appointment/advice line at (650) 742-2100 to make an appointment with a general practitioner. To make an appointment in our sub-specialty department, please call (650) 742-7110.
Our goal at Kaiser Permanente is to be your health plan of choice and deliver the quality medical care our members deserve. Thank you again for choosing Kaiser Permanente.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
