Welcome to my home page. My name is Kevin Nguyen (pronounced WIN). Thank you for allowing me to take part in your health care. Here you will find links to help you lead a healthy lifestyle and to stay fit from your early adult years to your golden years. There are also links to help you manage chronic conditions that you may have including diabetes, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, asthma, and chronic pain, just to name a few. In the “Health Encyclopedia” link on the left, you can search over 30,000 pages of in-depth information on health conditions, medications, medical tests and procedures.

As a hospital based physician, I will try to help you understand the symptoms and ailments that you may experience during your visit to the Emergency Department or during your stay in the hospital. I will be working with a team of professionals including other physicians, health educators, physical therapists, nutritionists, and mental health specialists in providing the most advanced and up-to-date health care. Using the Hospital Medicine link above, you can click to see pictures of my colleagues in the Hospital Based Specialty (HBS) group. Have fun navigating through my home page.

My Background

I was born in Saigon, Vietnam, in the midst of a civil war. The day I was born, my mother had to carry me away from the hospital because there were bombs going off all around us. Otherwise, I had an uneventful childhood until the age of 7 when my parents were again forced to carry me away from our familiar neighborhood to the uncertain land called California. The date was April 30, 1975, the day that the democratic South Vietnamese government fell. My family settled in Vallejo, California, where I grew up and graduated from Saint Patrick's High School. Because of my dual upbringing, I am fluent in both Vietnamese and English.

I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry at the University of California, Davis. Afterwards, I attended medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania where I also met my wife.

My Credentials

Medical school Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA
Internship California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998. I serve as an Assistant Clinical Professor with the University of California, Davis, teaching Medicine residents and students.

My wife is also a physician at Kaiser Permanente, South Sacramento. We have two daughters and one son. I like to play basketball and soccer when I can, and my hobby is building computers and doing landscaping.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
