My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an internist and pediatrician by training. I am working with the Palliative Care group and in the Emergency Department in Rapid Care.

My Practice Philosophy

In caring for my patients I focus on their needs. I know there are many aspects of why they are seeking care. I want to address their physical, emotional, and social needs.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I am returning to TPMG because I believe it offers the best health care in the United States. I have seen and worked in many health care organizations and the Kaiser system is by far the best for the member.

I enjoy working here because the focus of care is on the patient. We pride ourselves in having the best quality and superior access to care. My colleagues on our care teams all contribute to this and I enjoy working with them. I want this care for myself and my family.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

I am board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics. I am a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics. I am a published author in the areas of improvements of health care systems.

On a Personal Note

I am a native Californian born in Berkeley, California. I attended college and graduate school at UC Davis and UC Berkeley. Medical school was at UC Davis with post graduate training at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Sacramento Medical Center. Our children are grown and our older son is a school teacher in the Bay Area, our daughter is a physician pursuing a dermatology residency, and our younger son is in graduate school at UCLA in chemistry. I am an avid Oakland Athletics fan and enjoy college football. My wife and I are Lutherans and attend regularly. My mother is almost age 90, very active and still very much our family matriarch.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
