My Biography

Our Anesthesiology department enjoys terrific collegiality not only within our department, but amongst all of the folks in the operating room and with clinicians in other modules and departments as well. We take a team approach to care here, which is easy to do at Kaiser Permanente because of our comprehensive health care model. Clinicians regularly collaborate across departments and Health Connect, our electronic medical charting system, enables all providers on a patient’s care team to review the patient’s medical history at a glance. I served as Department Chief from 1998-2003, and I can attest to the fact that our department functions at an extremely high level and we do good work here.

I came to San Francisco Medical Center because I wanted a stable, broad-based practice in a centralized location, and I also wanted a group practice within a medical center that was not compartmentalized. Areas of particular interest to me include pediatric anesthesia and anesthesia for MRI. I was founder of Kaiser Permanente San Francisco’s Chronic Pain Management Program and the Samuel Merritt College nurse anesthesia program.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, theater, and film, especially French cinema. I THRIVE through running, swimming, skiing, cycling, and following healthy eating habits.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
