Welcome to my home page!

My name is Kelly O'Neal. I was born in California in 1955 and have lived here my whole life except for 4 1/2 years in Boston and St. Louis. I finished at Berkeley High and completed a degree in English Literature at University of California Santa Cruz. I attended medical school and did my surgery training at University of California Irvine. I have three growing children.

I have worked at Kaiser Oakland since 1990. My practice is focused in two main areas - caring for women with breast cancer, and doing advanced laparoscopy surgery (stomach, spleen, colon, and kidney).

I wouldn’t choose to work at any Medical Center but Oakland. While we lack some of the frills of other hospitals, this is a dynamic place and the staff is superb.

I am open to and interested in complementary therapies like meditation, acupuncture and herbs. I have experienced these modalities myself and have many patients who have benefited from using these therapies in conjunction with a Western medical approach.

The fundraising Annual Swim for the WCRC is one of my favorite events. I retain the record for most number of swims done. This year, I will swim with friends, colleagues, patients, and family.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Irvine School of Medicine, Irvine, CA
Residency UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange, CA
Board certification Surgery, American Board of Surgery

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
