Welcome to My Home Page
It is with pleasure that I have the opportunity to offer my home page on the Kaiser Permanente website. On this home page, you will be provided with links to additional sites that will help prepare you for anesthesia and surgery in addition to learning more about me.
I look forward to meeting you and serving your needs in the Anesthesia Department. Feel free to call the Pre-Operative Anesthesia Clinic (650-299-4895) should you have any questions about the anesthetic options available for your planned surgical procedure, or if you would like information on our “Prepare For Surgery” program. If you are interested in learning more about me, please read on.
My family immigrated to the United States in 1980 from Vietnam. As immigrants to the U.S., my family and I have benefited tremendously from the generosity of the United States government. The years that my family was dependent on the government for support has instilled in me valuable lessons about compassion and generosity. As I sit here and write my biography, I feel truly blessed to be working as a physician. I received my medical degree at Stanford University and did my medicine internship at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. I completed my anesthesia residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. I joined Kaiser Medical Center in Redwood City in 2005. I am a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the California Medical Association.
My interest in medicine stems from my love for scientific challenge combined with the opportunity for human compassion. I believe that I have found a specialty that will allow me to fulfill my dream of what it means to be a physician. As an anesthesiologist, I am confident that I have the skills necessary to ease fear and anxiety in this special population of patients who have entrusted their lives to me. Being an anesthesiologist allows me to utilize the skills I have developed through my experience in Hospice Medicine as a medical student. I feel that it is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to care for patients who are undergoing surgery, one of the most intense and anxiety-provoking life experiences, and this in itself is very gratifying. Although my patient contact will be limited, I feel I will serve a very crucial supportive role to my patients as they drift off into unconsciousness through the sounds of my voice and wake up to the sounds of encouragement as I lead them through the completion of their journey.
I chose to work at Kaiser Permanente and in particular Redwood City because of the strong supportive environment in the Department of Anesthesia. We function as a team and our goal is to provide the highest quality of care and service to you. Kaiser Permanente allows me to practice in a manner that places patient safety and trust as my top priorities. As an added incentive, Kaiser’s commitment to reaching out to the communities and supporting volunteer services alike is another attraction to working for Kaiser. As a recent healthcare volunteer to Tanzania, Africa, I am proud to be a part of a healthcare team that is dedicated to improving the health and well being of people all over the world.
When I am not at work, I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, biking and playing basketball. I am a student of art and music and if time permits, I hope to resume my interest in oil painting and learning the violin. My fiancé and I love to grow vegetables in our garden and cook from our harvest. Finally, I am passionate about traveling and having friends all over the world. I have backpacked through Europe twice and lived in London and studied in Peking University as a Stanford Medical student. As you can see, I hope to continue living life to the fullest and I look forward to meeting you.
