My Biography
I work for Kaiser as a hospital physician. Patients first meet me when they become sick enough to need hospitalization. This is a time of great physical and emotional stress for most patients. I feel it is important that they can identify me as the one person coordinating their evaluation and treatment, and the person to answer their questions and confide their concerns. My goal is to provide patients with the best care possible with the honesty, expertise, advocacy, compassion and commitment I would want for myself.
I was educated at Johns Hopkins Medical School and did my medical residency at Stanford Medical Center. I had additional training in critical care at U.C.S.F. I chose to become a Kaiser physician because I enjoyed the collegial atmosphere of dedicated medical professionals working in concert rather than in competition resulting in the best care for our patients.
My outside interests include day hiking in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Big Sur. I also collect and restore old medical books. My favorite is a first edition Principles and Practice of Medicine (1892) by Sir William Osler, the last physician widely recognized as an authority in all fields of internal medicine.
My professional interests center on critically ill medical patients. The rapid and extreme changes in physiology and response to therapy can make this a very rewarding practice.
