About Me

I am a California native from the Central Valley farmlands. I received my bachelor's degree from UC Davis and my master's degree in physical therapy from Boston University in 1983. I joined Kaiser in 1984. I became Manual Therapy Certified in 1993 and have been a clinical specialist in orthopedics and sports medicine. I do not ever plan to be done learning in physical therapy or any complementary medicine, since I am still trying to understand more about how the mind and body can work together to heal. I work in the outpatient clinic in Two North Tuesday - Thursdays and also enjoy being in Sports Medicine most Wednesdays. Outside of work, I am a wife and mother of two daughters, one with many special needs, but both are special. We like to travel, bike, ski, boogie board, sail, dance, do art projects and other fun stuff. I enjoy being involved with my daughters' schools, the hospice in Santa Cruz, church and assisting other parents of children with special needs.

I encourage you to think of the therapy for your condition as a life lesson in learning to take better care of yourself, an opportunity to participate in activities that could help you to continue to improve your overall health if you make them part of your lifestyle. Passive therapies such as joint or soft tissue mobilization may help you get started, but the active therapies such as exercise, postural and movement retraining are the biggest keys to lasting pain relief and return to activities that you enjoy and while working toward your best physical potential. I am looking forward to our teamwork in meeting these goals.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
