I am pleased to offer my home page as a means to introduce myself and also, to provide you with high-quality health information through useful handouts and helpful web links.

My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a genetic counselor. In brief, this means that I talk to people about genetic tests and what they mean, though my job actually involves much more. I am typically giving good news, but I also spend time helping patients and their families work through difficult times. I chose genetic counseling as a career because I enjoy helping people to understand the complexities of genetics. I love that I can be a resource for patients who have questions about information they have learned through their doctors, friends and family. My favorite part about my job is the feeling that I have made a positive difference in someone's life.

My Practice Philosophy

My goal as a genetic counselor is to provide as much or as little information as my patients desire so that they may feel empowered to make testing decisions just right for them. I hope that my patients view me as a compassionate, trustworthy and informed healthcare provider, as this is what I strive to be.

My Medical Education and Training

B.S. Genetics University of California, Davis, 1998
M.S. Genetic Counseling University of Arizona, 2005

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2006.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I love Kaiser's team approach to medicine. There are a huge number of specialists on hand so I know that my patients are getting all of the care they need. I really like having multiple medical geneticists available for consultations. In addition, having such a large group of genetic counselors present means that I have sufficient time to spend with each of my patients.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

National Society of Genetic Counselors, Full Member

On a Personal Note…

I am a proud native Californian! I grew up in Ventura County and moved to Northern California in 1994 to pursue my bachelor's degree at UC Davis. I met my wonderful Italian-American husband while in college and we have a happy household with our two calico cats and Border Collie/Queensland Heeler dog.

My husband and I are passionate about traveling, and we constantly daydream about our next trip to Italy. We can't watch "Under the Tuscan Sun" without checking the latest airfares to Malpensa International. Luckily we can save a little time and money by taking a day trip to North Beach in San Francisco instead!

My true love is ballet. I have danced since I could walk, and I hope to continue until I can't walk anymore! I take classes in Davis, and when I find the time for rehearsals I perform. I enjoy the exercise and art form, but more than anything I love to be on stage.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
