Welcome to Physical Therapy. I look forward to working with you and would like to share some of my background with you.

I am a native Californian, born in San Francisco. I grew up in the San Jose area and along with my family became a member at Kaiser Santa Clara when I was in high school.

I earned a BS degree in Human Biology at UC Davis in 1976. I then traveled all the way across the country (the furthest east I had been was Reno, Nevada!) to North Carolina for my Physical Therapy training, earning a MS in Physical Therapy at Duke University in 1979.

I spent my first year in practice in North Carolina. When I returned to California, I worked briefly at Kaiser Santa Clara while looking for a position in a neuromuscular rehabilitation. I practiced at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for a few years, working on several different rehabilitation units. I also tried my hand teaching at Stanford University in the Physical Therapy program. In 1985, I returned to Kaiser Santa Clara and have been here ever since. I served as Director of the department for 10 years, stepping down in 1996 when my husband and I adopted our newborn boy-girl twins, with help from the internet.

I am certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy (CDP) – which means that I am certified to treat patients with lymphedema. I also have advanced training and experience treating patients with neuromuscular problems (strokes, spinal cord injuries, etc.- from my days as a “rehab” therapist) and musculoskeletal problems (backs, necks, shoulders, etc.). I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, and in my “pre-twin” days was quite active at the local and state level. In my “spare” time, I volunteer with wheelchair sports.

On a personal note, I am constantly trying to balance working part-time and having a family. Most of my leisure time is spent on family outings, so I’m becoming well versed in all the area has to offer for young children. I also try to build in a golf and or tennis outing at least once a month, just for me.

I am in the clinic half time and try to arrange my schedule so that I have morning appointments two days/week and afternoon/early evening appointments the other two. I also have appointments around lunchtime each day. Please feel free to contact me anytime at (408) 851-1458 if you have questions or concerns – my voice mail is on all the time even though I am not here all the time. I look forward to working with you.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
