My Biography

I completed a one-year psychiatric internship at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas. I taught Family Systems Theory as an adjunct faculty at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, where I was also in private practice. I have experience working in inpatient, outpatient, residential, and psychiatric mental health care. I moved to California in 1996 from Cleveland, and joined Kaiser Permanente Redwood City, transferring to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco in 2002.

I run the Congestive Heart Failure and Oncology support groups. My practice focuses on the mind-body connection, and other behavioral techniques. I've created two education videos that have been shown on PBS: one on coming out, and the other on adolescent sexual minorities.

Outside of health care, music is very important to me. I enjoy playing congas and bongos in the band, Las Muchachas. I also enjoy hiking.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
