My Qualifications

I received my medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas. I completed my residency and fellowship with the University of Arizona in Tucson. I am a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2001. Prior to working for Kaiser Permanente, I was an academic physician for 15 years and most recently a professor of clinical anesthesiology at UC Davis. I was elected Teach of the Year. Prior to becoming a physician, I held a PhD in pharmacology.

My Healthcare Practice

I am a firm believer that everyone should exercise to maintain their health and well-being as well as their weight. As an anesthesiologist, I take very seriously the belief that each patient's life has been placed in my hands. This leads me to intensely watch over each and every patient until they are safely returned to their loved ones.

My focus is on high-risk pediatric patients.

I chose anesthesiology because I love the dynamic interaction of physiology and pharmacology that occurs during anesthesia and surgery. I also like to focus my complete attention on one patient at a time.

My Outside Interests

I have many interests that range from being a koi hobbyist to recumbent bicycling, kayaking and running.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
