My Qualifications

I selected my field because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I graduated from San Jose State University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and concentration in community/occupational medicine. Thereafter, I relocated from San Jose to Vallejo after getting married. I spent over six years working in the insurance field and decided to go into management. However, I still didn’t feel I was making a positive contribution. I switched career fields and joined Kaiser Permanente in March, 2004.

I believe in the power of hugs and actively listening to someone. It’s amazing how sometimes that is all a patient needs. I believe in encouraging wellness. By that I mean helping people live fuller and healthier lives, and not just treating them when they are sick or injured. Prevention and health education are a part of Kaiser’s history and it makes me proud to work for such a wonderful organization.

What I like Most About My Job

I love my job as a Clinical Health Educator because of my passion for teaching. I didn’t even realize it until coming into this position, but I love to teach. My job allows me to meet patients one-on-one or in a classroom setting. Currently, I teach several classes, including Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes, Stress Management, Hypertension, Weight Management, and Asthma. My favorite subjects are Congestive Heart Failure and Diabetes. I am very interested in both of these.

I am located in the Medicine 7 department, where I love working with the best adult primary care team in Vallejo!

My Philosophy on Healing

The best healing method is laughter and optimism. People with positive attitudes commonly enjoy life more. Viewing your glass as half-full can be the first step in overcoming life’s obstacles, from surviving a breakup to facing a difficult medical diagnosis. Optimists are more likely to defeat pain and adversity in their efforts to improve their medical treatment outcomes. Laughter is also a great healing method. The best news is that you don’t need any reason to laugh, just start! The benefits derived are physiological, psychological, and spiritual. Best of all, laughter is portable - think of it as a way of “charging up” the battery of your soul, anytime and anywhere!
