About Me
I was born at Oakland Kaiser in 1967. My family and I have received all of our health care from Kaiser since the early 1960’s. As a 3rd-year medical student, I did a neurology rotation at Oakland Kaiser. I have worked at Oakland Kaiser ever since then, except for the two years I was doing my fellowship at UCLA.
I took an interest in caring for the elderly early on -- when I was in high school I volunteered thousands of hours at the VA nursing home care unit in Livermore. I was fascinated and inspired by the life stories of the residents. I was also full of youthful indignation because of my perception that these nursing home residents were a forgotten part of society. It was then that I decided that I wanted to go into geriatric medicine. Now I am a full-time geriatrician. I currently spend all of my clinical time in skilled nursing facilities.
During my medical training, I have had the opportunity to work in private practice, university, and government settings. It was only within Kaiser Permanente that I was able to see seamless patient care provided across disciplines. The electronic record and integrated system of care at Kaiser give physicians the opportunity to provide high-quality care to our patients. I have had many opportunities to choose my practice setting. It is a privilege to work with my colleagues at Kaiser Permanente.
