My Biography

I am from Canada and attended the University of Western Ontario for my undergraduate work and completed medical school at the University of Toronto in 1988. My internship at the University of Saskatchewan prepared me for rural family practice and for the next several years I worked in family and emergency medicine in remote communities of northern Ontario and British Columbia.

In 1995, I moved with my husband to California. From 1995-1996, I completed a Master of Science degree in epidemiology at Stanford University. During 1996-1998 I continued at Stanford as a National Institute of Health fellow in Sports Medicine.

During my time at Stanford, I worked in the training room with Stanford varsity athletes and was team physician for the men's volleyball team. I implemented a new system for health examinations of the varsity athletes to provide them with better primary and preventative medical care. My research has been published in the journal of the American College of Sports Medicine (Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise).

After completion of my training at Stanford University, I joined the Occupational Medicine Clinic. I also work in the Sports Medicine Clinic at Kaiser Santa Clara. I enjoy treating injuries in both the working and athletic population. I strongly believe in the importance of physical activity for a healthy lifestyle.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
