My Profession and Why I Chose It

My specialty is internal medicine, which is the equivalent of family practice for adults. In my practice, I deal mainly with the elderly and chronic illnesses. I chose to do this because I am comfortable in this area.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Davis School of Medicine, Davis, CA
Internship UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Residency Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice

Until recently, my practice was one of the largest in the area. As many of my patients know, I had an acute illness some time ago. This caused me to rethink my practice and I have been in the process of cutting down to something more manageable. However, I still see many patients a day, including through lunch hour and sometimes late into the evenings. I also still make house calls on those whose financial and physical restrictions make it hard for them to come to the clinic.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente’s ultimate goal is to provide the best medical care. In my heart, I know this to be true. I think we provide the most proven medical care that is available. My professional interest is in self-recognition as a good doctor. My affiliation is to my patients.

On a Personal Note…

I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. My family moved to Lancaster when I was 14, mostly to find an environment that was better for me. I went from being a street kid in constant fights, to being a farm boy milking goats and raising pigs. I went to junior college n Lancaster, then to UCLA, where I made honors in Biology. Then I went to medical school at UC Davis, where I made honors in Internal Medicine. After completing my residency at Kaiser Permanente here in Sacramento, I joined as a staff physician and I've been here ever since.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
