I am a native of Reno, Nevada, raised by my parents who emigrated from Taiwan. After majoring in both biology and classical music/violin performance at Stanford University, I ultimately chose medicine as a career due to my realization that it was a perfect merging of the vastly complex science behind human illness and the delicate art of healing people both physically and psychologically.

I first became interested in gastroenterology as a medical student when I performed some Howard Hughes research on Wilson’s Disease which affects the liver. Throughout my residency in internal medicine at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, I was amazed by the constantly evolving technologic advances that the field of gastroenterology offered its patients to better their health. Alongside this, there were continual advances in the fields of inflammatory bowel disease and chronic liver disease.

This led to my choice to pursue subspecialty training in Gastroenterology at the University of California in San Francisco. Although I am well versed in all aspects of gastroenterology, I hold a special interest in therapeutic endoscopy, in particular using ERCP to treat pancreaticobiliary disease. I am also especially interested in helping patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, whether it be Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. Whatever your ailment, I promise that we will sit down together and make sure that you understand what the problem is and what our options are to treat it. I believe that patient participation and education are central tenets of successful medical care.

Additionally, I am also fluent in Chinese Mandarin and welcome native Chinese speakers to my practice.

I feel that Kaiser Permanente is a perfect vehicle to provide high quality efficient care to its patients. The Gastroenterology Group at Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo and Vacaville possess a large number of highly trained physicians with different backgrounds where the spirit of academic and intellectual learning, collegiality, and diversity are encouraged. Ultimately, it is this collective knowledge and experience that allows us to treat our patients with the utmost compassion and expertise.

In my spare time, I try to continue my lifelong passion for music, and also enjoy swimming, tennis, and international travel. I believe the San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most unique, diverse, and exciting places to live in the world.
